Visit to Haltern 30th August - 2nd September 2013

A very enjoyable time was had by all this weekend. We were well looked after by our friends in Haltern.

We set off early Friday morning 06:00 to board the 09:00 ferry from Harwich to the Hook of Holland. A very smooth crossing across the North Sea arriving at the Hook of Holland 16:45. After a few arguments with the Sat Nav we eventually reached Haltern at 21:15. After a short welcoming service our hosts collected us.

On Saturday we had a tour of the town of Xanten  and then the Roman Open Air Museum. Both were very interesting. Some of the children went to an adventure theme park. The day was finished with an excellent meal in the Gotische Haus Restaurant.

On Sunday we had a very nice joint Church Service at the Erlöserkirche. After the service we were treated to an excellent lunch in the Church Hall. The rest of the day was spent with hosts. We were also very fortunate that the Heimatfest was taking place in the town and many of us spent a very relaxing few hours there.

On Monday we departed from Haltern at 9:00 and had a very easy drive back to the Hook of Holland and back in Norwich by 22:30.

We now look forward to looking after our friends from Haltern next year.
